LED street light demand in 2009 is less than expected

March 09, 2023

According to the LED inside statistics of the industrial research institute, the total demand for LED street lamps in the Chinese market in 2009 was less than 300,000 baht, far less than the market expected in early 2009. The main reason is that the street lamp standard in China has not yet been released, and the quality of LED street lamps remains to be verified by time. Therefore, the Chinese government's policy support direction will begin to shift from outdoor lighting to indoor lighting.

Looking forward to the future, LED street lights have the advantages of energy saving and environmental protection, and the Chinese government is vigorously promoting the green energy economy. LED inside research department assistant Yu Chao pointed out at the LEDforum 2009 that the market demand for LED street lamps in China is about 400,000 in 2010. The scale must wait until the specifications and standards of LED street lamps are introduced, and the technology of China's LED street lamp manufacturers will be upgraded.

Chu Yuchao said that LEDinside has a total of about 164,000 cities in China that have announced the demand for LED street lamps. According to the current statistics, the demand for LED street lamps in China in 2009 is below 200,000 baht, but there are many other The city also has LED street lighting demand, plus some enterprises LED street lamp exports, LED street lamp demand is estimated to be about 200,000 to 300,000 baht.

Among the 21 cities in China's policy “Ten Cities and Ten Thousand Cities”, only three cities in Weifang, Chongqing and Baoding clearly proposed that the installation of LED street lamps should exceed 10,000 baht in 2009. Most other cities did not clearly indicate the number of LED street lamps required, even The number is also below 10,000 ,. In 21 cities, most cities only establish pilot zones with experimental nature.

LEDinside pointed out that if optimistic estimates are used, the overall demand for LED street lights in 21 cities will be around 130,000 in 2009. However, the actual installation volume is more likely to be less than 130,000 baht. In 2009, the market capacity of China's LED street lamps is estimated to be much less than the market's 800,000 to 1.2 million LED LED street lamps.

Chu Yuchao said that some big cities such as Beijing, Shanghai, Guangzhou, Shenzhen and so on are relatively cautious about the promotion of LED street lamps. On the one hand, due to the large-scale promotion of LED street lamps, practical tests are needed and industry standards for enforceability are formulated. On the one hand, local governments also hope to promote the development of the local LED industry through LED streetlight demonstration projects, so they are not eager to replace LED streetlights immediately. It is expected that LED streetlights will be adopted on a large scale after 2012. (Edit: Looking up at the stars)
