Osram Philips lumens pushes new LED light sources

Philips Lumens upgraded the home RebEL brand to improve performance by 15%, while OSRAM Opto Semiconductors announced the use of multi-chip LEDs for outdoor lighting.

Osram Opto Semiconductors LEDs combine red, green and blue (RGB) sources for extreme outdoor lighting and display. At the same time, Philips Lumens announced that the Luxeon Rebel Plus brand is compatible with mechanical and optical products compared to the previous Rebel LED brand, and that the former is 15% better than the latter in solid-state lighting (SSL).

"We understand the need for economical demand to drive LEDs. Rebel Plus is designed to provide higher LED performance and more efficient drive systems, helping to reduce costs," said Raj Malhotra, Philips Lumens Product Line Manager. "SSL manufacturers should be able to quickly adopt new single-transmitter led lights because they can accommodate existing Rebel LEDs."

Rebel Plus is packaged in Philips standard 4530 ceramic packaging with a 2.5 mm diameter dome to match current optical principles. Philips offers Plus mode with a color rendering index of 80 from 2700K to 5000K CCTs.

Philips said the new LED will provide SSL products with a system efficiency of up to 110 pounds/W. In addition, the LEDs withstood the heat resistance test in a 3rd or 5th order MacAdam elliptical toolbox at 85 °C. Malhotra added, "With the launch of the Rebel Plus brand, we have customers who have embraced Binning's shackles and upgraded the existing Rebel platform to deliver outstanding LED brightness performance."

An upgraded product line from Philips did not meet the requirements of the Energy Star. In some cases, Energy Star reduced the LM-80 test time for subsequent LED products to 3000 hours, compared to 6000 hours previously. And for Rebel Plus's LM-80 test time is 3,000 hours, Philips did not respond.

Next, look at RGB Displix. The LED lights provided by OSRAM are as follows: one for the Displix Black version (black package and black reflector) and one for the Displix Blackprint version (white package, black print and white reflector). The Displix Black LEDs output 1450mcd at 6504K whiteness and are called D65, while the perspective is 30 mA. The Blackprint version has a revised output of 2950 s.

The new LED measures 4.5 x 4.5 x 2.1 mm and is designed for a dense display. This multi-chip design means that product designers do not need to tightly package red, green and blue LED lights.

More stringent spacing means better pixels and higher resolution. "People are getting used to seeing high-definition pictures at home and on HD-compatible devices, so the demand for outdoor displays is changing," said Sven Weber Osram LED Display Marketing Manager. "These two new Displix versions have long life, high resolution, high strength and good quality for a variety of uses."

OSRAM offers a long list of Displix products that meet environmental standards. For example, the product MIL-STD-810F is resistant to rain and MIL-810G has salt and fog resistance. LEDs can also withstand corrosive gases and sun exposure. Osram says LED life can exceed 100,000 hours at a given temperature.
