An Australian startup called LIFX is preparing to launch an LED light bulb connected by wireless Wi-Fi this year.
This “smart” light bulb idea was inspired by a conversation between LIFXCEO Phil Bosua in the bar, and in September 2012, several other co-founders of Posiva and LIFX started the project through the Kickstarter platform. Raising funds, the company has raised more than $1.31 million, and the team’s initial goal was to raise $100,000.
The led bulbs connected by wireless WiFi can be controlled by a smartphone application, each of which is a computer running the open source Contiki operating system (Thingsquare distribution). A group of light bulbs form a wireless mesh network (the wireless mesh network: Mesh's core guiding principle is to allow each node in the network to send and receive signals) and connect to external WiFi signals.
"Now, this project of LIFX is close to the flowering results, and the first batch of light bulbs will be launched in the third quarter of this year," said Daniel co-founder and chief technology officer Daniel.
